sandtray examples
The sandtrays below are part of a series created by a patient, as she recovered from coma. The young woman, K.L., was in a car accident and had suffered a severe head injury. K.L. loved horseback riding. Her beginning sandtray was quite rudimentary. A bridge leads to the edge of the world. As she improved, one sees a greater amount of elaboration, more detail in the worlds. The horses begin to move. They leave the venue yet, in the next they return, flocking to a well. The initial corral, fully enclosed and fairly devoid of content, becomes a set of lively enclosures with gates: there's a way in and out. Trees and cars also show a greater amount of investment and participation.
